1、 What is velvet
Velvet, also known as Zhangrong, originated in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. It forms a pile circle or pile on the surface of the fabric with the pile warp. It has been produced in large quantities in the Ming Dynasty and is one of the traditional fabrics in China. There are flower velvet and plain velvet. Flower velvet is to cut part of the velvet circle into fluff according to the pattern. The fluff and the velvet circle alternate to form the pattern. The surface of plain velvet is all velvet circles. Velvet fluff or loops stand closely, with the characteristics of luster, wear resistance and not easy to fade. It can be used for clothing, bedding and other fabrics.
Velvet fabric adopts cocoon grade a raw silk, silk as warp, cotton yarn as weft, and silk or rayon as pile ring. Both warp and weft yarns are degummed or semi degummed, dyed, twisted and then woven. According to different uses, different raw materials can be used for weaving. In addition to the silk and rayon mentioned above, it can also be woven from different raw materials such as cotton, eye, viscose, polyester and nylon. Therefore, velvet fabric is not really woven with velvet, but its feel and texture are as smooth and shiny as velvet.
