The difference between woven and knitted
Jul 09, 2022
The most obvious difference between woven and knitted is: woven is made of warp and weft, so there are two directions of warp and weft. Knitting is made of a loop that is continuously barbed, so it has a certain elasticity.
As for the hand feel, it is affected by a series of yarn counts, weaving methods, and finishing. But usually knitted fabrics are softer to the touch. For example, the underwear and sweaters we wear are all representatives of knitted fabrics. The suits, shirts, jeans we wear are all woven fabrics.
Summer tops, in addition to shirts and chiffon, are basically knitted T-shirts, and woven is generally used for coats, shirts, and pants
Of course, the demarcation line is not very clear, and thicker knitting can also be used as a coat.
The advantages of woven fabrics
The main advantage of woven fabrics is that the structure is stable, the cloth surface is flat, and there is usually no sagging phenomenon when hanging, which is suitable for various trade-offs. Woven fabrics are suitable for various printing and dyeing finishing methods. Generally speaking, printing and jacquard patterns are more precise than knitted, braided and felt fabrics. A wide variety of fabrics are available. As a garment fabric, it has good washing resistance and can be used for innovation, dry cleaning and various finishing.
Disadvantages of woven fabrics
Woven fabrics are not as elastic as knitted fabrics. When they are not properly cleaned, they will form warp and weft inclinations, which will affect clothing selection, sewing processing and wearing functions. However, due to its many advantages, it is widely used in clothing .
